Details about the association:

We call ourselves ’asan’ (pronounced ashaan), which is a Malayalam word and can mean scholar or teacher. The school we belong to is named after Mahakavi Kumaran Asan. This notable poet from Kerala was titled asan, for his deed and literary works.

Our school, Asan Memorial Senior Secondary School, situated in the heart of the city (Chennai), was more than just a place for syllabi and tutoring. It was a place of learning and bonding. The Alumni Association fosters this and also attempts to keep this feeling alive and well for all of us who are spread all over the world, or even next door to each other, but caught up in our daily life.

This portal is your opening into the world of the Asan(s). It creates a virtual world where you can meet your friends and batch mates, see and read about happenings about the alumni, participate and contribute to the growth of association.

Mission Statement:

The main purpose of the Asan Alumni Association is to provide an organization through which the alumni of the Asan Memorial Senior Secondary School dispersed around the world can interact with each other to further the objectives outlined in it’s Mission Statement and thereby to provide service to the:

ALUMNI: To facilitate networking among alumni with the following purposes in view:
Providing a platform for social interaction between alumni for mutual benefit in social, academic and/or business areas.
Providing assistance to alumni (where deemed fit by the association).

SCHOOL: To facilitate and encourage alumni to contribute towards improvement in the status of the School in areas pertaining to academics, infrastructure, industry interactions and any other area that the alumni feels appropriate.

STUDENTS: To render assistance to deserving students of the School through grants, scholarships, prizes etc and to provide assistance in academics, placement or any other area that is felt appropriate by the association. The association shall also try to create opportunities and provide suitable forums to enable such interaction.

SOCIETY: The association will also encourage and facilitate the alumni taking up activities that are geared to improve society at large.

OTHER: To further such objectives as the General Body may decide from time to time.

The road so far:

The alumni association was first started in 1966. During these intial years the association took a few long siestas, interspersed with a few bursts of action. These were not were good enough to keep the momentum going. The associations was also cash strapped and had very little funds that barely covered the day to day running of the organization.

In late 2006, the association finally narrowed down on a few options for fund raising. And the culmination was a kitty of about 5 lakh rupees collected from ticket sales, donations and sponsorships. The ticket sales came from a music program conducted in Jan 2007. Even though the collections and attendance, from the alumni were below expectations, we were able to make a start. The advertisements carrying the Asan Alumni name ran around the city for almost 3-5 weeks, and some hoardings even lasted longer. So, the awareness attained by this program paid more dividends than that can be measured directly or monetarily.

President’s Message:

It gives me great pleasure to represent the alumni of this school. The most formative years are spent in the school and indeed it is the site of the earliest friendships. Once we leave school we often look back on the school days with nostalgia and affection. The alumni is the prefect forum to reach out to old friends and school mates and reconnect.

Efforts are on to create more bonding amongst the Alumni with batch wise get together being organized.

Many past students have expressed an intention to assist poor children studying in Asan School. with this impetus and also that the Alumni is also serving a larger social objective by launch of an AAET....a trust to assist the poor but academically incline students of Asan in their School education. The Trust is formed and registered and we have already started collection of Corpus fund.

A revamped web site makes information dissemination easier and more accessible.
